A 59-year-old female was referred for management of suspected primary carcinoma of the peritoneum in August 2023. She complained of right flank pain and abdominal distention during the previous month. An abdominopelvic (AP) CT scan showed right hydronephrosis and hydroureter along with multiple peritoneal and omental (largest 4.3 x 12.1 x 4.5 cm) masses, as well as a pancreatic tail lesion. There were no enlarged lymph nodes (LNs). Gross ascites and moderate left pleural effusion were present without a pleural mass. Her Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status (ECOG PS) was 1.

Elranatamab monotherapy demonstrated a median progression-free survival (mPFS) of 17.2 months and median overall survival (mOS) of >2 years in heavily pretreated patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma (R/R MM) who had received a median of five prior lines of therapy, with no new safety signals, according to long-term follow-up data from the MagnetisMM-3 trial presented at the 29^th Congress of the European Hematology Association (EHA 2024).

Patients with relapsed/refractory (R/R) acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) often have poor prognosis and limited succeeding treatment options. In particular, the presence of FMS-like tyrosine kinase 3 (FLT3) gene mutation adversely affects survival outcomes. At an industry-sponsored symposium, Professor Mark Levis from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, US, discussed the role of the oral selective FLT3 inhibitor, gilteritinib, in patients with R/R FLT3-mutated AML, and shared case studies to demonstrate its applicability in select patients in his clinical practice.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) constitutes about 85% of all lung cancer cases.¹ Of those diagnosed with NSCLC in Hong Kong, approximately 13% are found to have stage III disease.² Prior to the advent of immunotherapy, the standard of care (SoC) involved concurrent chemoradiotherapy (cCRT) followed by active surveillance.³ However, outcomes have been poor, with most patients experiencing disease progression after CRT. This has resulted in a 5-year overall survival (OS) rate of 15–30% for stage III NSCLC.⁴

A 79-year-old male chronic drinker and smoker, with a 60 pack-years smoking history, presented with an incidental finding of a right middle lobe lung mass following a chest CT scan for aorta-related pathology in June 2023. He had hypertension, mild chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), chronic kidney disease (CKD) and abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) with known celiac and inferior mesenteric artery (IMA) stenosis.

Advanced age, chronic comorbidity, and immunodeficiency are established risk factors for herpes zoster (HZ). HZ is a debilitating condition that poses a significant burden on patients’ quality of life and the economy and has a bidirectional relationship with cardiovascular disease (CVD). At the 28^th Hong Kong Medical Forum (HKMF), Professor Kai-Hang Yiu of the Department of Medicine, University of Hong Kong, presented an overview of the public health impact of HZ in high-risk patients with immunocompromised conditions or chronic diseases and discussed the long-term effectiveness of adjuvanted recombinant zoster vaccine (RZV) against HZ.
