Proton pump inhibitor use poses increased stone risk
Use of proton pump inhibitors appears to contribute to a higher risk of developing kidney stones in a dose-dependent fashion, as shown in a study. Likewise, histamine-2 receptor antagonists are associated with a risk increase, suggesting the possibility of acid suppression as an underlying mechanism.
