Postponing Menstruation (Patient Counselling Guide)
Postponing Menstruation, also known as delaying menstruation or
menstrual manipulation, refers to the use of hormonal contraceptives to
control the frequency and volume of menstrual periods, in effect
avoiding the discomfort caused by its accompanying symptoms (eg,
abdominal cramping, severe headache, feeling of weakness,and/or
bloating). Some women suffer from painful or debilitating menstruation,
hence, opting to avoid periods for the purpose of attending or enjoying
special occasions (eg, honeymoon, planned vacation, athletic
competition, or important exam).
