Sex-specific prediction models help estimate pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma risk in diabetes
The risk of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) appears to be higher among individuals with diabetes than in the general population, as well as in men than women, according to a study. Prediction models built around this finding demonstrate moderate accuracy for pinpointing men at high risk of PDAC, in whom surveillance may be required.

18 Jan 2022High selenium concentrations may reduce death risk in diabetics
Greater concentrations of selenium appear to lower all-cause and heart disease mortality among individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D), suggests a study.

15 Jan 2022Acute HF patients with diabetes derive less frailty benefit from physical rehab
Older diabetic patients with acute heart failure who undergo physical rehabilitation have worse baseline physical function but demonstrate similar clinically meaningful improvements from the intervention, results of the Rehabilitation Therapy in Older Acute Heart Failure Patients (REHAB-HF) trial have shown. However, the benefit derived for frailty is lesser among those with diabetes.

15 Jan 2022Why does bariatric surgery confer better cardiovascular benefit to diabetics?
Differential changes in fasting serum levels of fibroblast growth factor (FGF)-19 and FGF-21 may help account for the superior cardiovascular benefit of bariatric surgery on obese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus vs nondiabetics, a recent study has found.
