Overview

Genital herpes is a recurrent lifelong disease with no cure, caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV).
Infection is frequently asymptomatic but local symptoms may include Pain, itching, dysuria, vaginal and urethral discharge and tender inguinal lymphadenopathy.
Viral detection should be done to all patients with suspected genital herpes who were not previously diagnosed with HSV.
Pharmacotherapy is warranted in suspected or diagnosed initial genital herpes infection with lesions not yet fully crusted.
