Differential Diagnosis

Causes of secondary hypertension should be ruled out, especially in patients at extremes of age (younger or older).   

Differential diagnoses may include:

  • Acromegaly 
  • Aortic coarctation
  • Chronic kidney disease
  • Collagen vascular disease
  • Cushing syndrome
  • Drug-induced hypertension 
  • Hyperaldosteronism
  • Hyperparathyroidism
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Obstructive sleep apnea 
  • Renal artery stenosis
