Overview

Hepatitis A route of transmission is through oral-fecal route while in hepatitis E, aside from the oral-fecal route, it is also transmitted through blood transfusion in endemic areas.
The majority of acute viral hepatitis infections are asymptomatic or they can cause an anicteric illness that may mimic other viral infections.
Serological tests that can be done include anti-hepatitis A immunoglobulin (IgM), hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), HBeAg/anti-HBe status, HBV DNA, anti-HBc IgM, anti-HCV, anti-HIV, anti-HAV, and anti-HDV.
Though the disease is self-limiting, supportive therapy may be offered.
