Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is aetiologic for acute cardiovascular (CV) events such as myocardial infarction, ischaemic stroke, unstable angina and death. CV diseases (CVDs), mainly ischaemic heart disease (IHD) and stroke, are the leading causes of mortality and morbidity worldwide, with CV deaths reaching 18.6 million in 2019. In Malaysia, IHD and cerebrovascular diseases are the principal causes of mortality in 2021, accounting for 13.7% and 6.5% of total deaths, respectively.
