Going about colorectal screening the COREC way

The MOH and MIMS colorectal screening awareness programme is well under way with the launch of two subsequent education modules. The collaboration is known as “COREC: Battling colorectal cancer together” with the first module launched early 2022.

The education modules are targeted at healthcare professionals – doctors, pharmacists and nurses. Now, the second and third modules will be ready for participation in July 2022. The second module is titled “Colorectal cancer: biomarker-based screening and patient referral pathway.” The module covers topics such as the importance of early detection and screening, barriers of screening, screening pathways and patient navigation among others.
The third module is titled “Colorectal cancer: procedure-based screening and diagnosis.” The third module covers topics such as colonoscopy; sigmoidoscopy and colon capsule endoscopy; computed tomographic colonography (virtual colonoscopy); and various aspects of colorectal cancer staging.

The modules are accredited by Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) and carry 1 CPD point each upon completion. Dr Awi Curameng, Director (Regional Medical & Society Engagement), MIMS, encouraged all HCPs to participate in the initiative in order to help realize the MOH’s agenda to  increase rates of early screening and prompt treatment of CRC and improve the clinical outcomes of CRC in Malaysia.

To register for the COREC Initiative programme, go to: https://registration.onlineevents.corp.mims.com/crc-aware-program-registration/.

The courses can be accessed at the MIMS Education website: https://www.mims-cpd.com.my/my/courses

HCPs are encouraged to join this programme and complete the modules, after which a short quiz will be carried out to determine the effectiveness of the awareness initiative.
