Infertility is the inability to conceive despite regular unprotected sexual intercourse for one year, with male infertility as the sole cause accounts for 20% and 30-40% as a contributory factor to infertility in couples.

Evaluation is indicated if there is inability to achieve spontaneous pregnancy after >12 months of regular unprotected sexual intercourse or if  the female partner >35 years of age has not conceived after 6 months of regular vaginal intercourse w/o contraceptive interventions.
