Invasive Mould Disease in ICU

05 Oct 2020
Some fungal diseases go undiagnosed which leads to serious illness and death. Increased awareness about fungal diseases is one of the most important ways we can improve early recognition and provide life-saving treatment. IMD poses a significant challenge in the intensive care unit (ICU) affecting both neutropenic and non-neutropenic patients. Invasive aspergillosis (IA) is the most common type of IMD that is usually underestimated and one of the most frequently missed diagnosis found post-mortem. Another type of IMD found in the ICU is mucormycosis which also has a significant mortality rate despite the advances in the diagnosis and treatment.
