Diet, physical activity help lower cardiometabolic disease risk
Behavioural weight-loss interventions, such as diet alone and diet plus physical activity (PA), induce a beneficial change in biomarkers of insulin resistance and cardiometabolic health in adults with overweight or obesity, reports a study. However, no additional benefit has been observed with the addition of moderate-intensity PA to a diet-only intervention.

27 Feb 2023Adipose tissue–targeted nanoparticles may improve treatment of obesity and atherosclerosis
Researchers from the University of Hong Kong (HKU) have developed a nanoparticle-based targeted drug delivery system that selectively transports thyroid hormone (TH) to adipose tissue, which may improve treatment of obesity and its related cardiometabolic complications by overcoming serious adverse events (AEs) associated with systematic TH administration.

27 Feb 2023Tirofiban improves functional outcome, prevents haemorrhage in stroke patients
Endovascular treatment (EVT) with intravenous tirofiban prior to thrombectomy appears to improve functional outcome and reduce the risk of any intracranial haemorrhage in patients with large vessel occlusion treated within 4.5 hours after stroke onset compared with alteplase, a study has shown.

26 Feb 2023Depression prevalent in women after small vessel stroke
Patients with mild small vessel stroke (SVS) are nearly 7 times more likely to experience depression within 3 months of the incident stroke than those without a history of stroke, reveals a recent study.

25 Feb 2023Tighter BP control improves pregnancy outcomes in women with DM, chronic hypertension
Further lowering blood pressure helps cut the risk of adverse perinatal events for pregnant women with pregestational diabetes mellitus (DM) and mild chronic hypertension, according to the secondary analysis of the Chronic Hypertension and Adverse Pregnancy (CHAP) study presented at SMFM 2023.
