Dry Skin (Patient Counselling Guide)
Dry Skin or Xerosis is a condition that results in scaling or flaking of dead skin cells that are often rough and moderately itchy, which may be the result of aging (as the skin tends to lose moisture with age), environmental conditions (eg, low humidity, artificially controlled room temperatures, and cold, dry,or hot climate), excessive bathing or soap use, and diseases (eg, atopic dermatitis, diabetes, and hypothyroidism). It occurs more commonly in the elderly and more frequently in the winter. It often occurs in the arms, abdomen or flanks (ie, sides of the abdomen), back, lower legs, thighs, and waist.
