Neuritis (Patient Counselling Guide)
Neuritis is a condition characterized by the inflammation of nerves. Some forms of neuritis include optic neuritis, brachial neuritis, and labyrinthitis or vestibular neuritis. Optic neuritis is the inflammation of the optic nerves, the nerves that transmit images from the eye to the brain. It is commonly associated with multiple sclerosis, and the cause is believed to be demyelinated lesions in the optic nerves. Brachial neuritis is a rare syndrome with an unknown cause affecting the motor branches of the peripheral nerves in the arm. Vestibular neuritis results from the inflammation of the vestibular nerve of the inner ear.
