Sleep Disorders (Patient Counselling Guide)
Sleep is a basic human need that is critical to both physical and mental health. Most people have trouble sleeping. However, if sleep problems regularly occur and interfere with daily life, a sleep disorder should be considered. Sleep disorders are characterized by abnormal sleep patterns that interfere with physical, mental, and emotional functioning. Stress or anxiety can cause a serious night without sleep, as with a number of diseases and health conditions eg, depression, obesity, hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, lung diseases, osteoarthritis, and Parkinson's disease. Sleep can often be an indicator of overall health.
