Conditions that mimic systemic lupus erythematosus that need to be ruled out are the following:
- Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection
- Drug-induced lupus
- Early rheumatoid arthritis
- Fibromyalgia with positive ANA
- Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura
- Other vasculitides
- Sjogren’s syndrome
- Scleroderma/systemic sclerosis
- Rosacea
- Mixed connective tissue disease
