Differential Diagnosis

Conditions that mimic systemic lupus erythematosus that need to be ruled out are the following:

  • Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection
  • Drug-induced lupus
  • Early rheumatoid arthritis
  • Fibromyalgia with positive ANA
  • Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura
  • Other vasculitides
  • Sjogren’s syndrome
  • Scleroderma/systemic sclerosis
  • Rosacea
  • Mixed connective tissue disease
